ABOUT

An innate curiosity and collaborative spirit have made it possible for Katherine Vasquez Do Couto to enter the world of design singularly well equipped. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Katherine first started in the fashion industry at only 15. This precocity would continue throughout her career, placing her today in the role of Chief Operations Officer for Mónica Sordo Jewelry.
Although most captivated by the creative aspect of the industry, Katherine always understood that a successful brand is a composite of many elements, from the product and the story to the commercial relationships. In line with this global vision of the industry, she studied both Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing and Management at the Savannah College of Art and
Design.
After winning the 2014 SCAD Challenge, Katherine moved to the US to attend the prestigious university on a scholarship. As a student, she was selected to represented the school in competition for the CFDA/Teen Vogue Scholarship and the Liz Claiborne Design for Impactful Future Scholar Award. Katherine was also a finalist in the CFDA+ 2018 Design Graduates program; that same year, she won the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund.
During her formative years, Katherine continued garnering professional experience. She worked in the New York atelier of Venezuelan designer Angel Sanchez and later honed her skills in the studio of Portugal-based designer Katty Xiomara. She also held roles in the fashion editorial and advertising sectors, and broadened her horizon by spending a semester in Hong Kong.
Creative yet pragmatic, Katherine boasts a unique skillset that makes her the perfect fit for Mónica Sordo Jewelry. Even at her young age, Katherine’s inquisitive character has allowed her to comprehend and adapt to the needs of the diverse markets she manages as COO, from the US to Europe and the Middle East.
To a label rooted in innovation and craftsmanship, Katherine brings her love for timeless design and artisanal creations, her passion for exploring how a concept is turned into a reality, and the eagerness to understand the brand’s clients so she can better convey the story behind each piece.
With a shared belief in the pursuit of permanence in design, Katherine and Founder Mónica Sordo form an alliance, together with the rest of their team, that fosters creative collaboration and highlights heritage and craftsmanship.
